Independent specialist writer and communications professional
About Sarah Clark

Who am I - and how can I help you?

I'm Sarah, an independent writer and communications professional with a background in health, public sector and research communications.

My writing super power is getting to the heart of a complex subject and communicating it clearly to your intended audience.

Plain doesn't have to be dull.

I turn difficult concepts - and important information - into something people will read, understand and engage with. Just because it's written in plain English, that doesn't mean it can't entertain, inform or inspire.

Background

I've worked with The Health Improvement Studies Institute in Cambridge as Research Communications Manager since 2022, and I've written extensively for community pharmacy and consumer healthcare. I also have experience of writing for education, consumer law, local and regional government clients.

I'm a member of the Medical Journalists' Association.

I can translate research summaries into something readable, interview subject experts, members of the public and researchers, create accurate, engaging health information and resources, decode NICE guidelines, write pharmacy features, create understandable public-sector resources, and more.

How I work

  • I'll get to know your source material
  • I'll ask you about your audience
  • I'll ask you about your key messages to make sure I know what matters most to you and your audience.
  • I'll ask a lot of questions.
  • I'll find the story, where it's needed.
  • I'll keep the information accurate.
  • I'll take out jargon, acronyms and confusing information.

Clear communication should respect the audience's intelligence without assuming their expertise.
